Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch

Cameron came home yesterday with a note saying his lunch account was overdue. I was perplexed because the kid hasn't bought lunch once so far this school year. Today Lauren says, "I know why Cameron brought home that letter about his lunch account. He's eating breakfast in the morning and I told him he couldn't and he said it was okay because it was free."

Aah Hah! I go to Cameron and ask, "Do you want to tell me what you've been doing at school in the morning? "Working hard in my class" was his response. I said, "No, before class...have you been eating breakfast there?" "Yes" he says but has no idea that he is eating on credit nor that I would find out. So he eats here and then eats again as soon as he gets to school and is still skinny as a rail. I guess he needs alot more food but is just too ADD to sit still and eat long enough for his tummy to tell him he's full. He says it was great because he got to eat cocoa puffs with chocolate milk on them. So good to know that our school cafeteria is dedicated to sugaring up our youngsters before a full days work! No wonder I don't let him eat breakfast at school!!!

My Super Saturday Project

Check me out!

Check out my cute new apron I made today at our Souper Saturday event at church....yeah, I know, you likey! I was so happy I finished it, but not without the help from my good friend Joni...Thanks, Joni! The link to her website is Modern Myrtle where you can order your own along with several other vintage-esque goodies! I feel like I really need to bake now...time for some cinnamon rolls...yum! This recipe is the best cinnamon roll recipe ever! It's from my friend, Paula Deen, Food Network star. Try it out!

Dough:
1/4-ounce package yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup scalded milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter or shortening
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour

Filling:
1/2 cup melted butter, plus more for pan
3/4 cup sugar, plus more for pan
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
3/4 cup raisins, walnuts, or pecans, optional

Glaze:
4 tablespoons butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 to 6 tablespoons hot water

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside. In a large bowl mix milk, sugar, melted butter, salt and egg. Add 2 cups of flour and mix until smooth. Add yeast mixture. Mix in remaining flour until dough is easy to handle. Knead dough on lightly floured surface for 5 to 10 minutes. Place in well-greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled in size, usually 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
When doubled in size, punch down dough. Roll out on a floured surface into a 15 by 9-inch rectangle. Spread melted butter all over dough. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over buttered dough. Sprinkle with walnuts, pecans, or raisins if desired. Beginning at the 15-inch side, role up dough and pinch edge together to seal. Cut into 12 to 15 slices.
Coat the bottom of baking pan with butter and sprinkle with sugar. Place cinnamon roll slices close together in the pan and let rise until dough is doubled, about 45 minutes. Bake for about 30 minutes or until nicely browned.
Meanwhile, mix butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Add hot water 1 tablespoon at a time until the glaze reaches desired consistency. Spread over slightly cooled rolls.

P.S. I add cream cheese to the icing cuz I like it like that!

GO BYU!

This I thought was too funny as I searched for a BYU image...

GO BYU!
BYU vs UTAH STATE FRIDAY NIGHT @ 7 p.m.

Aquarium Adventure

Darren is out of town this entire week in Utah and the free coupons to the aquarium the kids earned for summer reading at the library were about to expire! So we took a trip to see some sharks Tuesday evening. We got to pet sting rays, they are very slimy by the way, and see lots of real sharks in a tank over our heads and around us! It was cool! There were also, moray eels, beavers, otters, and of course, Nemo was there with Dori! We were done after and hour and a half. I can't imagine spending the 60 $ it would have cost us all to get in without the coupons for an hour of fish watching. Fish are fish, man! It was worth the 15 dollars it cost just for me, for all of us to go though! Then to Braum's for ice cream! Can't beat it. What a fun night.

You gotta problem Dude?

Wow! I don't know if I have ever expended this amount of energy in less than 24 hours before. It was a lot of work to pack, hook up boat, set up tent, lay out beds, have loads of fun singing karaoke, roast s'mores, get very limited sleep, stand up swaying baby after nursing for 45 minutes in middle of night so as not to wake fellow campers, get up, dress kids, eat breakfast, have more fun, take down camp, pack back up, and deal with very fussy baby! But it was all part of the experience! I sang Material Girl with some girlfriends and we rocked it out. We better get good at the camping thing though since Darren is the new Young Men's President in our ward. He was released from our Bishopric a couple weeks ago and then received the YM calling. The only thing I really gained was a husband to help wrangle kids in sacrament meeting, for which I am very grateful! This is a whole new ball game for him. So we may find ourselves on more campouts to come. Goodness knows, he needs the practice! Amy, tell Chad to get Darren a Philmont belt! Maybe he can pick his name this Christmas.
