Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch

Cameron came home yesterday with a note saying his lunch account was overdue. I was perplexed because the kid hasn't bought lunch once so far this school year. Today Lauren says, "I know why Cameron brought home that letter about his lunch account. He's eating breakfast in the morning and I told him he couldn't and he said it was okay because it was free."

Aah Hah! I go to Cameron and ask, "Do you want to tell me what you've been doing at school in the morning? "Working hard in my class" was his response. I said, "No, before class...have you been eating breakfast there?" "Yes" he says but has no idea that he is eating on credit nor that I would find out. So he eats here and then eats again as soon as he gets to school and is still skinny as a rail. I guess he needs alot more food but is just too ADD to sit still and eat long enough for his tummy to tell him he's full. He says it was great because he got to eat cocoa puffs with chocolate milk on them. So good to know that our school cafeteria is dedicated to sugaring up our youngsters before a full days work! No wonder I don't let him eat breakfast at school!!!

Your kids are so cute girl!!!

Let's arrange some marriages now....you have a boy and a girl just about Maile and Isaac's age...ha ha

And they are probably as sweet as their mommy and daddy!

Jonathan was doing the exact same thing. We have to prepay his lunch money, so when his was gone WAY before the other kids, we confronted him with the same question. He is now banned from school breakfast. If he doesn't eat at home, tough beans.

We are such mean parents.

Hi Ismari!!

When did they start giving credit to six year olds? Man they are starting earlier and earlier. Before you know it, he will be filling out a Visa application in the 4th grade.

Crazy that they have no supervision or limits on what kids can and can't eat. One day they will have a diabetic go in there, craving sugar and then disaster! I love that Cameron thought it was FREE!!! So innocent!

At our school, breakfast is free and given out at the beginning of class each day. Each child HAS to take some even if they have eaten at home. They don't have to eat it, but once Trix and Cocoa puffs in chocolate milk are in front of kids, of course they eat it. I was so angry when I found out what they had been feeding my kids for breakfast. Mary had been coming home every day having been in fights with the other kids and crying by the end of the day when she got into my car. She is hypoglycemic and does not handle sugar well at all. Finally I said, "What did they feed you for lunch?" The items she listed off seemed fine until her little brother chimed in about mini cinnamon muffins for breakfast. WHAT!? I called the school and banned them from feeding her a thing for breakfast besides plain Cheerios and milk, and all of the fighting and crying stopped and the world became a better place for her. Why do they feed our kids this junk? With all the problems with obesity and diabetes you would think someone would plug in their brains. I think it is because it is cheap.
